The Labouchere Betting System

The Labouchere Betting System

The Labouchere betting system in blackjack is one of the more complex systems that a player can use. Although having said that it is not too difficult to grasp and employ while you are playing but the description can get a bit long winded.

The basic premise of the strategy is to come up with an amount you would like to win, in a multiple of your base unit bet. For example say you are betting a base unit of $10 and would like to win $200 then you want to win 20 base units.

You now need to come up with a random sequence of numbers that totals to 20. For example 2, 1, 4, 6, 3, 4 (2+1+4+6+3+4 = 20). The order of these numbers, or in fact the numbers you choose do not matter as long as they total to the chosen amount of base unit bets you want to win. 7
Once you have the sequence decided upon the strategy can be employed in your betting. Start by taking the number from each end of the sequence (the first and last numbers) in this case: 2 and 4. Add these numbers and that is your first bet in terms of base units. Here our bet would be 6 base units, or $60.

If that bet wins, cross off the 2 and 4 from the ends so your sequence now looks like: 1, 4, 6, 3. Now, again, do the same thing; take the numbers from the ends and that is your bet in base units. If that bet wins, cross off the two numbers and repeat the process again.

If any bet loses then you add the base unit bet onto the end of the sequence. For example our sequence is 1, 4, 6, 3 and we place a $40 bet (1 + 3). Now this bet loses, so you add the 4 onto the end of the sequence: 1, 4, 6, 3, 4.

Continue this process of removing numbers when you win and adding when you lose until you have removed all the numbers and there is nothing left in the sequence. At this point you will be up by the amount of base units that you decided upon at the start when you chose the sequence.

The sequence you should choose is totally up to you and you can choose it to suit your own comfort levels. It is totally up to you, experiment, try it out, and have fun with it.
