Tboung Khmum Province, Cambodia – Police close casino over cockfighting

Following an order by the Tbong Khmum Provincial Court on Wednesday the 4th of July, Provincial police officers moved in and closed Global 69 casino (located on Cambodia’s southeastern border with Vietnam) for allowing bettors to wager on cockfights. During the course of the crackdown, more than 100 people were arrested, and as many as 20 cars and 200 motorbikes were confiscated. It is against the law for Cambodians to gamble in the kingdom. While police claim that the owners and managers of the cockfighting ring were also arrested, some local residents have complained that the owners and operators of the illegal cockfighting ring were not among those taken into police custody.
