About Soccer

Soccer (football) is easily the most popular sport appearing sports betting markets. The game is played in virtually all countries on the earth, and where there is sports gambling, there are football bets. Soccer sports bets are so numerous that you can bet on virtually any aspect of a game or tournament you wish. Soccer also contains many thousands of competitions, most of which are covered by the majority of bookies and sportsbooks.

Most major football tournaments are played from August to May, with the summer reserved for major international events. As well as the big domestic leagues, such as the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1, there are also many other hundreds of leagues to bet on. Players can also stake money on continental club competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Europa League, as well as international football tournaments. The biggest include the FIFA World Cup, and the European Championship (such as this summer’s Euro 2016). These are held every four years.

Betting on Soccer

Where do you begin? There are so many different types of soccer bets out there that you are spoilt for choice. Most of us will still choose to place Outright Bets, by choosing the outcome of a game from a home win, away win, or a draw. Outright bets can also include tournament winners, such as league champions, cup winners, European champions, or world champions.

Other favourable football bets include betting on the players themselves. These can include First to Score, the Next to Score, and how many goals a player will score in a match. You could even bet on how many goals will appear in a game with Over/Under Bets.

As we’ve said, pretty much everything is there for wagering on, in football. You could choose to play more obscure bets such as the number of fouls, cards, free kicks, or corners in a game if you wanted. If you aren’t a stats nut, it is best to stick to the basic bets in football, though.

Betting tips and strategies

If you followed the 2015/2016 Premier League season, then you will know all about the underdog, and what they can do. This season, Leicester City (a team on the verge of relegation the year before, and with virtually no cash to splash) managed to beat all of the big-spenders in England, to become the Premier League champions. The odds of them doing so were 500-1, and yet they triumphed. Remember Greece winning Euro 2004? Underdogs can triumph in football, so keep that in mind.

It is also important to take note of the situation regarding extra-time and/or penalties, especially with tournaments like this summer’s Euro 2016. Not all bets are based on the outcome of the game, and some are only counted at 90 minutes (so excluding extra-time, and/or penalties). Make sure you understand how your bets works before you make it.

Lastly, it is important to take advantage of offers when they come your way. Most major online sportsbooks run very special football offers, such as your money back if a game ends nil-nil (0-0). Have a look at an online sportsbook’s latest offers to see if there is any way you can bolster your chances of landing a big win, or at the very least, avoiding a defeat with their special offers.
