Sampson County, North Carolina – 200 illegal sweepstakes and video poker machines are seized in illegal gambling bust

21 of the state’s Alcohol Law Enforcement agents, and 22 members of the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office descended upon several business establishments on Thursday the 17th of December and confiscated approximately 200 illegal sweepstakes and video poker machines in the community of Autryville. Sheriff Jimmy Thorton requested the assistance of the state’s Alcohol Law Enforcement after receiving multiple complaints from residents pertaining to illegal gambling in the county. As a result, officers searched the following business establishments:

Top Catz, 102 W Williams St, Autryville, NC 28318

Roseboro Overstock, 101 East Roseboro St., Roseboro

JMJ Coin Laundry, 206 East MLK Blvd., Roseboro

Clinton Overstock, 912 S. East Blvd., Clinton

Evidence of illegal gambling was found at the above mentioned locations. Authorities also searched “Lucky Shop”, which is located at 208 Williams St., Autryville, where they found more illegal video poker machines. In addition to seizing the illegal gambling machines, authorities also seized an undisclosed amount of cash from these establishments. Eight business owners and employees are currently facing several charges relating to the illegal gambling operations that took place at these five business establishments.
