Roulette

Roulette is a game of chance. You will find it in most casinos with a crowd of people watching and playing.

Roulette is played at an elongated table. At one end is a wheel with a notch where the dealer will stand. The table is covered in felt and you will find boxes with numbers 1-36 arranged in three columns and 12 rows. Above the numbers 1, 2, and 3, are two boxes for the numbers 0, and 00. The 0 and 00 have green backgrounds, and the numbers 1-36 have red or black ovals or rectangles around them. The grid is used for wagers called inside bets. Outside of the grid you are going to find several other boxes for outside bets, you will find these along the long side of the table opposite the dealer. You will also find, away from the dealer, boxes for bets which are on each 12-number column. The wheel has 38 numbered slots with the same color background as the numbers on the table. There is a small traditionally ivory ball that is tossed into the wheel. Nowadays you will see plastic balls on roulette tables. As the dealer spins the wheel in one direction, the ball is tossed in the opposite direction. As the speed of the ball decreases it will eventually settle into one of the numbered slots.

You will not find regular casino chips at a roulette table. Instead, as you place a bet at a roulette table you will be given special roulette chips of separate color for each player. Couples playing together may not share chips; this helps the house from being brought into a dispute. That’s right; even married couples are prohibited from sharing chips! Each player has the denomination to choose the value of the chips. Once designated the dealer places a chip on top of a rail next to the wheel. A marker is placed on the wheel to show the value of the chip. When you are done playing the dealer will cash you out with regular casino chips. Roulette chips are not available to be cashed out at a cashier’s cage, simply because each player designates a different value.

There are several rules at a roulette table. Seats at the table are for players only. Even if watching you are not allowed to sit at a roulette seat. Play will begin once table is cleared and all previous bets have been paid out. The dealer will give players time to place a bet; bets can be placed until the ball is about to drop from the track towards the numbered slots.

Roulette is a game of chance, no one can really predict the number that is going to hit. You can bet your lucky number, or an anniversary or birthday, but the fact remains that you just get lucky and hit the number, or you don’t. How about an interesting fact? They say that the most played number in casinos is very well the number 17, because that is the number James Bond played in the movies.
