Police in China arrest 94 members of a $72 billion cross-border gambling ring

Ninety four members of an illegal Southeast Asian gambling ring that brought more than 400 gamblers from China, across to Laos and Myanmar to gamble more than 500 billion yuan ($72.28 billion) were arrested by Police in China. Police discovered the ring back in 2013 after investigating a murder over unpaid gambling debts. During the course of the arrests, police freed eight gamblers who were held against their will in Myanmar by members of the gambling ring. In China, it is illegal to lure Chinese nationals to foreign gambling destinations. In October 2016, several employees of an Australian casino operator were arrested in China on suspicion of gambling offenses.
