NYPD bust and shut down a large scale illegal gambling and drug operation

Operating in four different states, including New York, Massachusetts, Georgia and Florida, the large scale gambling and drug operation known as “poker speakeasy” was shut down by the authorities. Police executed 19 search warrants and 5 arrest warrants, arresting 32 people in multiple states. The illegal operation was managed from apartment buildings. People who were looking to gamble were directed to specific locations where they could play casino games, while drug users who wanted to buy cocaine and heroin were directed to specific addresses where they could purchase their drugs of choice. The person who was managing and promoting the gambling club allegedly used an online service known as “Meetup” to bring in customers.

“We will continue to be relentless in our mission to dismantle these types of illicit operations and bring the criminals who run them to justice,” said NYPD commissioner James O’Neill.
