New Orleans, Louisiana – A man dies after falling from an escalator inside Harrah’s New Orleans Casino

James Edward Darst, 33, of North Carolina entered Harrah’s Casino on Thursday the 7th of April at approximately 2.30 a.m. with several co-workers. About an hour later, Darst walked inside the casino’s Masquerade Club, went beyond a curtain and crossed a barricade before walking up an escalator to the second floor. Darst then attempted to slide down the escalator handrail to the first floor, but fell to the first floor. The sound from the fall drew a crowd of onlookers and his co-workers who contacted the New Orleans Police Department. Police arrived on the scene at approximately 3:41 a.m. Darst was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the fall.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Harrah’s is fully cooperating with the local authorities as a thorough investigation of this incident is conducted. At this time, we are not able to provide any further information on this matter,” said Dan Real, who is the general manager of the casino.
