Miami, Florida – A police officer is stabbed in the face at Magic City Casino

A gambler was playing Poker at Magic City Casino on Thursday the 21st of January, when he started screaming and acting aggressively. It was just before 1.00 a.m. when casino staff asked the man to leave the casino. The man refused, and so casino staff asked Officer Raul Perez who was off-duty, but in full police uniform to remove the man from the building. When he was asked to leave the building, the man refused and completely ignored the officer. A scuffle soon broke out during which both the man and the officer were physically struggling against each other on the floor. The man pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer in the cheek, and the officer shot the man in self defense. They were both taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The police officer was treated and released. The man underwent surgery and remains in the hospital in a critical condition.

Magic City Casino released the following statement regarding the incident. “This was a very isolated incident. The on-site presence and expertise of City of Miami Police Officers at the casino has allowed us to maintain an outstanding safety and security record. Magic City Casino is proud of their long standing relationship with the City of Miami Police Department and wishes Officer Perez a speedy recovery,” said Magic City’s Vice-President of Political Affairs, Izzy Havenick.

Magic City Casino is located at 450 NW 37th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33125.
