Members of the FBI, NYPD and LAPD arrest 17 people in a raid on an illegal gambling operation

Members of the FBI, NYPD and LAPD descended upon the home of Cyrus Irani, 37, who is the alleged bookmaker and “boss” of an online gambling operation, while authorities conducted simultaneous raids in New York, San Diego and the Los Angeles County as part of a police operation to bust the illegal gambling ring. In total, 17 suspects were arrested for managing an illegal $32 million sports betting ring that stretched westward from Queens County and made use of offshore based gambling websites to take bets. More than $3 million were seized by the FBI from bank accounts controlled by Cyrus Irani. All 17 defendants are alleged to have violated New York State’s Organized Crime Control Act, and have been indicted on 126 charges including enterprise corruption, money laundering, promoting gambling and conspiracy.
