Manila, Philippines – The man who torched the gambling tables at Resorts World Manila was a problem gambler

Jessie Carlos, the man who stormed the Resorts World Manila on Friday, June 2, 2017, set gambling tables alight, and stole $2 million worth of casino chips before escaping and committing suicide a short time afterwards was a problem gambler who owed more than $80,000. The 42 year old father of three who worked at the Philippines’ Department of Finance was not a terrorist, but a gambling addict who was in serious financial trouble confirmed police spokesman Oscar Albayalde at a news conference.

“He was barred by Pagcor from all casinos because of the request of next of kin. This could have probably triggered him. That’s why he was so mad at casinos,” said Oscar Albayalde.

“My son was a good person, but changed after he started going to casinos,” said his mother, Teodora Carlos.
