London, Ontario – A priest gambles away $500,000 meant for refugees

A priest at St. Joseph Chaldean Catholic Church in London, Ontario was recently suspended after admitting to his bishop that he had lost more than $500,000 to gambling. The money had been put aside for the sponsorship of Iraqi refugees. London police have launched a fraud investigation, however no charges have yet been laid. The priest with the gambling problem has since been referred to the Southdown Institute for treatment. The Southdown Institute is a non-profit facility which offers treatment for religious and clergy who suffer from addictions and mental health issues.
