Japan to significantly lower the maximum amount that a Pachinko player can win

In a bid to fight problem gambling in Japan, the National Police Agency plans on decreasing the maximum amount that a Pachinko player can win within a four hour period from ¥100,000 to ¥50,000. Pachinko is a very popular arcade/gambling game in Japan, and is a combination of a pinball and slot machine. The NPA also plans on educating arcade parlor managers and employees about gambling addiction and how to spot the signs and offer help to those who have gambling problems. Although the number of Pachinko arcade parlors in Japan have decreased from 18,244 in 1995, to 10,986 in 2016, the game of Pachinko remains a favorite and is very popular among Japanese arcade visitors.
