Jamaica, New York – A woman thinks she won $43 million at Resorts World Casino but is told that it was a slot machine malfunction

Katrina Bookman was playing a Sphinx slot machine at Resorts World Casino New York City in late August when the machine displayed the message: “Printing cash ticket $42,949,672.76”. Believing that she had just won close to $43 million, Bookman was absolutely ecstatic as she thought about how she was going to spend the money. She wanted to buy a barbershop for her son, and help her community.

When the casino staff and customers noticed her win, she was swiftly escorted off the casino floor by security and told to come back the following day for a decision regarding the win.

The following day, casino management informed Bookman that the $43 million win was a slot machine malfunction, and that particular slot machine’s maximum prize is only $6,500. The casino offered Bookman a free steak dinner and the $2.25 that she had actually won.

According to the New York State Gaming Commission, the slot machine had malfunctioned which voids all pays and plays. The slot machine was removed from the casino floor after the malfunction, repaired and returned.

However Bookman is not impressed and plans to sue the casino.

“They win and the house doesn’t want to pay out. To me that’s unfair. The machine takes your money when you lose. It ought to pay it when you win.” said Bookman’s attorney, Alan Ripka.

Bookman believes that she should at least receive the maximum prize allowed, and has even offered to treat the casino director to a free steak dinner with her winnings.
