Former Powerball winner pays millions to repeatedly bail her boyfriend out of jail

Marie Holmes, 26, won a $188 million Powerball jackpot in February 2015. The mother of four collected a $88 million lump sum after paying the taxes owed. It was the largest jackpot win in North Carolina.

Since winning the lottery jackpot, Holmes has spent millions of dollars bailing her boyfriend, Lamar McDow, 31, who is also known as “Hot Sauce” out of jail.

Shortly after her win, during the month of March 2015, Holmes posted a $3 million dollar bond to get her boyfriend out of jail. He was being held on heroin trafficking charges.

McDow was re-arrested in July 2015 for violating his pre-trial release. Court documents show that officers found weapons and drugs in their home in Shallotte. Holmes posted a $6 million bond to get McDow out of jail in August 2015.

On the 26th of December 2015, McDow was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of conspiring to arrange a street race. He is currently being held on a $12 million dollar bond.

If a defendant breaks the rules of a pre-trial release, then the size of the bond automatically doubles, which explains why the initial bond was $3 million, then $6 million, and now it is $12 million.

Many people are curious and are wondering if Holmes will bail McDow out again. McDow’s previous arrests include drug, assault and weapons charges.
