About Cricket

Let’s be honest – cricket isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. However, this centuries old game is still one of the most popular sports to wager on. There is a lot of action on cricket, particularly in the United Kingdom, Southern Asia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Africa, the Pacific, and the West Indies.

There are several types of cricket games, including Test Cricket which is played between international teams. Twenty20 is a quicker version of cricket and is often played between international teams, too. There are also the national championship games to bet on. These include England’s County Championship, the Currie Cup in South Africa, the Shell Shield in the West Indies, New Zealand’s Plunket Shield, India’s Ranji Trophy, and the Sheffield South of Australia.

Betting on Cricket

Straight or Moneyline Bets are the best type of cricket bets for amateurs. With them, players are backing a single team to victory over their opposition. This is common to virtually all major sporting events.

Series Score Bets involve betting on the total outcome of a series (several matches of cricket between the same teams). Match Score Bets involve betting on the correct number of runs in a match, whilst the Top Bowler Bet will see a player wager on the bowler who takes the most wickets in the match. This bet can also be made on the total number of wickets a bowler takes over a series.

You can even bet on whether the total number of runs will be an odd or even number with cricket betting. This is a very simple way to bet, but it is challenging to pull off.

Betting tips and strategies

Cricket – like baseball – also features a lot of luck, as well as skill. Just because an underdog is not fancied certainly does not mean that they won’t pull off the impossible. Keep an eye out for the wind if you can. Whilst the wind can make it difficult to throw a good ball, or land a good strike with the bat, the rain will wash out a game completely. If it looks as though it may rain, your match may be delayed or even postponed.

You should also keep in mind that form may count in cricket. If you are wagering on a match which is part of a series, why not look at how the previous games have gone. Competition such as The Ashes, ICC World 20, and ICC Cricket World Cup Games have a lot of stats for you to check up on, to see which team is on form, and which isn’t. Again, though, form doesn’t guarantee success.
