Columbus, Kansas – Police arrest the suspect who robbed a Downstream Casino patron

On Friday the 19th of August, at approximately 2.00 p.m, a Downstream casino patron was reportedly robbed by a man in the parking lot of the casino. After robbing the victim, the suspect ran into the nearby woods. Approximately one hour later, the suspect emerged from the woods and entered his vehicle. An officer who was investigating the robbery ordered the suspect out of the vehicle, but the suspect drove at the officer, who fired shots at the vehicle. The suspect fled the casino and drove onto Missouri on Interstate 44. The suspect who had a player card at the casino was identified as Jacoby Sammons, 19, of Neosho, Missouri. He was arrested at approximately 4 a.m. Saturday morning at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. He had visited the Mercy Hospital in Joplin seeking treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Sammons was arrested and charged with Assault on Law Enforcement, Fugitive from Justice and Aggravated Robbery, and Fugitive from Justice. He was transported to the Newton County Jail.
