Aberdeenshire, Scotland – A shop assistant accidentally tears up a £57 million lottery ticket

It was an honest mistake, and it could’ve happened to anyone. When Fred Higgins (67) and Lesley Higgins (57) took their lottery ticket to a local shop in Aberdeenshire to check if they had won anything, the shop assistant told them that they hadn’t won anything before tearing the ticket in half and throwing it in the rubbish bin. A few minutes later, an electronic message on the terminal told them to keep the ticket and to contact the lottery organizers Camelot. After getting their ticket back from the rubbish bin, the couple went home and double checked the numbers on the ticket before realizing that they had just won £57 million. Mrs. Higgins immediately quit her job, and the couple are now looking at purchasing a second home and taking a couple of holidays overseas.
