A woman is robbed of her casino winnings

After winning £8,500 in a London casino, a 55 year old woman was followed out of the casino by Wael Ben-Tourkia, a 24 year old Tunisian student and robbed at Sandy railway station. Ben-Tourkia was playing at the same West End casino as his victim prior to the robbery, and had noticed how much money she had won. Then following her out of the casino, he tailed her on the underground and on the train to Sandy, until she exited the train and walked to her car. After she opened her car door and put her handbag on the seat, the suspect quickly put his hand over her mouth and grabbed her handbag before running off. Fortunately, an off-duty police officer was nearby and chased the suspect who was found hiding behind some rubbish bins. Wael Ben-Tourkia who is living in London on a student visa has pleaded guilty to the robbery which took place on July 29, 2015 and was jailed for 12 months with financial penalties of £1,000. “Drugs, alcohol and gambling were unknown to him until he came to London. He has fallen in with the wrong crowd and accrued debts of £35,000, mainly through his gambling addiction.” said Ahtiq Raja in Ben-Tourkia’s defense.
