A Staten Island mortician is given five years probation for running an illegal poker operation

Joseph Fumando, 44, a Staten Island Mortician has been given a five year probation sentence for running an illegal Texas Hold ‘Em poker game. Although Fumando was initially facing an 18 month to 2 year jail term, he was spared from going to prison because there was no evidence of violent crime, or organized crime, and the money wagered wasn’t very much. In addition to receiving five years probation, Fumando was also fined $8,000 and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service. Twelve other persons were arrested including a NYPD detective, a retired NYPD sergeant, and two firefighters.
