A man wins $1,000,000 from the Michigan Mega Millions Lottery thanks to a mistake

69 year old Richard Hopper, Sr. stopped by at the Sunrise Sunset Party Store which is located at 1009 Huntly Road in Niles to purchase a Mega Millions lottery ticket. Having accidentally printed a lottery ticket for another customer who did not want it, the sales clerk asked Hopper if he wanted to purchase the ticket that he had accidentally printed. Hopper agreed, and purchased the ticket. The lottery draw took place on Friday the 27th of May. When Hopper checked the five white balls drawn (18-41-50-68-70), he initially thought that he had won $100,000, but much to his delight, he realized that he had won $1,000,000.

“When I stopped to buy my Mega Millions ticket, the clerk said he had accidentally printed an easy pick for another player who didn’t want the ticket, and asked if I wanted to buy it or if I wanted another ticket. I decided to buy the ticket that had already been printed off and boy, am I glad I did.” said Hopper.

The odds of landing the correct 5 winning numbers but not the Mega Ball (5+0) in the Mega Millions are 1 in 18,492,204
