A computer warning system to help gamblers monitor their spending

Plainridge Park Casino is preparing to use a computer software program that will help gamblers monitor their spending. It will be a first in the United States, following successful trials in Australia and New Zealand. The computer system is called “Play Management”. The system basically allows gamblers to set a daily, weekly or monthly gambling budget. When the gambler approaches his limits, then the system will give the player a warning to let him know that he is approaching his limit. The system will also warn the player when he has reached the budget limit that he has set. Once the gambler has reached his limit, the system will not stop the gambler from continuing to play, but will keep reminding him for every 25% he goes over the set budget. Spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said a pilot program for the system at Plainridge will begin in either December or January. Plainridge Park Casino is located at 301 Washington St, Plainville, Massachusetts, 02762.
