A 79-year-old man is robbed at Grand Victoria Casino

A 79-year-old man visited Grand Victoria Casino to play the slot machine. Before playing the slot machine, he cashed a $5,000 check and proceeded to make his way to the slots. While he was sitting down, spinning the reels, 34-year-old Sean Sheppard approached him and briefly talked to him before walking off. Some time later, the elderly man stood up and walked away from the machine, when Sheppard approached him a second time, yanked the money from his hand and ran away. The elderly man managed to hold onto one half of a torn bill. In the course of the police investigation, investigators identified the suspect as 34-year-old Sean Sheppard and tracked him down at his Elgin home where they found the other half of the torn bill, and some of the money that he had stolen. He was arrested and charged with one count of robbery of a person older than 60 years of age, which is a class 1 felony. He was ordered to be held on a $75,000 bond.
